Mint Chip Ink is a graphic design studio created and run by Kelly H. Smith. I help clients express themselves through compelling brand identities and delightful experiences. My work strives to clarify purpose, build thoughtful understanding, and evoke curiosity & emotion.
With over 20 years of design experience, Kelly H. Smith created Mint Chip Ink design studio on the idea of keeping things personal, collaborating with clients, focusing on quality, and creating thoughtful design solutions with a positive impact.
Kelly graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications. She started her career as a graphic designer in the Art Department at George Lucas’ visual effects company; Industrial Light & Magic. During her 14 year span, she worked with some of the brightest artists and technicians in the world to create logos, identity, advertisements, film collateral, event design, invitations, apparel, talent acquisition campaigns, and internal brand communications.
She has taught design through Studio 5, the American Institute of Graphic Arts’ (AIGA) education outreach program for fifth graders as well as introductory-level design classes to fellow Lucasfilm employees. Kelly’s natural curiosity led her to the San Francisco Center for the Book where she took many letterpress classes before acquiring her own 1906 Chandler & Price Old Style Letterpress.
Kelly lives in Marin County, California with her husband and two children. On the weekends you can find them exploring the outdoors on a hike, bike, or run.
