Rogue One Film Title
After many rounds of exploration, we landed on a modified version of Trajan for the Rogue One film title. Trajan is a typeface that is seen throughout the Star Wars films. With art direction from Doug Chiang, our goal was to convey an ominous time in the Star Wars universe.

Modified Trajan
Trajan is a typeface that is seen throughout the Star Wars films. In the end, it made sense to use this typeface as it has such a strong association with the Star Wars brand.

Type Exploration
We explored deconstructed typefaces, custom lettering and hand-distressed custom textures to communicate the overall darker tone and style of the film.

Precis Typeface
According to the Star Wars Scrapbook, it was revealed that Joe Johnston did the original title lettering which was part of the Precis font family. Inspired by this piece of history, we developed custom type for the Rogue One film title based on the Precis typeface.

Custom Lettering
Using black ink and a paintbrush, we created lettering with texture and sharp lines to express the foreboding feel of the film.
